Route Description
THE RUN
The run route of the Speyside Duathlon begins with a climb on a tar road for the first 300-400 metres, before it changes to a farm track up
towards Ardcanny farm. The route takes you through the farm and then turns off to the right 150 meters afterwards. Continuing on the track,
you will pass between between fields and through a gate where the track changes to a single path which winds its way into Ardcanny Wood, through
trees on to the main climb in the run. At the top of the climb the route opens up on to a forestry track that will take you to the highest
point of the course. From there, it's down hill to the bottom of the valley (well almost) where participants will cross the Burn of Rothes
and climb up to the Dounie Path. Once on the Dounie Path, it's all single paths from here down through the trees and then along side the
Burn of Rothes where participants will find themselves crossing a footbridge back at The GlenRothes Distillery where they will change over
on to their bikes.
THE BIKE
The cycle route starts off with a cycle down through The GlenRothes Distillery and then on to Burnside Street to the junction with the A941
where the participants will turn right and head through Rothes obeying all traffic laws along the now cycle route. Participants will follow
the A941 on to Craigellachie and over the River Spey bridge where the route takes a left turn onto the A95. There will be a marshal at the
bottom junction to direct participants along the correct road. From there, participants will find themselves on a steady climb up out of
Craigellachie and through Maggieknockater where the road starts to wind down to Mulben. You will make a turn on to the B9103 which leads to
Boat Bridge where participants will cross the River Spey again and climb up on to the B9015. This is the final leg in the cycle ride back to
Rothes. On entering Rothes, participants will find a marshal directing them to the left, off the road towards Mackessack Park where the road
turns to a track and then on to grass to finish off in the Rothes Park.
